These Baccarat spheric lamps are not attached to, but rotate on their bases. Unique design by Jacques Adnet, part of the retrospective currently at Patrick D. Gutknecht gallery.
Born in 1901, Jacques Adnet was a French Art Deco designer and architect. He attended Paris’s École des Beaux-Arts and exhibited at the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes. Distinctly avant-garde, Adnet was among the first to expect metal and glass to integrate with the structure and decoration of furniture. From 1928-1960, he directed La Compagnie des Arts Francais where his team of decorators included Francois Jourdain, Charlotte Perriand, and Georges Jouve. During the 50s, he created furniture and concentrated on the numerous commissions he received, such as the decoration of the private apartments of the President at the Elysée Palace and the meeting room of UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris. From 1959-1970 he was Director of the Ecole Superieure Nationale des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. He died in 1984.
